A little traveling circus arrives in a Vietnam’s central highlands. The artists bring in the magic and illusion of entertainment, and take advantage of townsfolk’s gullibility to sow seeds of doubt and disarray in their minds.

The plot centres around knifethrower Gabor and a girl called Adèle, who intends to kill herself by jumping from a bridge. Gabor intervenes to prevent the suicide and persuades Adèle to become the target girl in his knifethrowing act. The film then follows their relationship as they travel around Europe with the act. Their companionship and teamwork mean great luck for both of them. Then they get separated and their lives once again become luckless…

A frustrated son tries to determine the fact from fiction in his dying father’s life.

On the eve of the summer tour, the owner and founder of a small circus dies tragically. To try and save the season, the troupe decide to call in his eldest daughter Kate. Though Kate left the circus neraly fifteen years before, much to everyone’s surprise she agrees to return and join them. As chance will have it, on the way she meets an Italian, Vittorio, who is intrigued by Kate’s character and gets so enthusiastic about circus life that he decides to follow them for a while. He gradually becomes part of the company’s life and even of the show.

1937, Spain is in the midst of the brutal Civil War. The Happy clown is interrupted mid-performance and forcibly recruited by Republican militia. Still in his costume, he is handed a machete and led into battle against National soldiers, where he single-handedly massacres an entire platoon. Fast forward to 1973, the tail end of the Franco regime. The clown’s son, Javier, dreams of following in his father's career footsteps, but has seen too much tragedy in his life — he's simply not funny and only equipped to play the Sad Clown.

Clown Bubbles likes making people laugh and above all, shocking the audience. However, his performance routine gets disrupted by the departure of the Bearded Woman…

A la veille de la tournée d'été, le propriétaire et fondateur d'un petit cirque décède brutalement. Pour essayer de sauver la saison, la troupe décide de faire appel à sa fille aînée Kate. Bien que cette dernière ait quitté le cirque depuis une quinzaine d'années, elle accepte à la surprise générale de mettre entre parenthèses ses activités actuelles et de les rejoindre. Le hasard met sur sa route un Italien Vittorio. Intrigué par la personnalité de Kate et passionné par la vie du cirque, celui-ci décide de faire un bout de chemin avec eux.
