When Polly Fisher gets hurt while performing a trapeze act, she is taken to the nearby house of Reverend John Hartley. As she recuperates they fall in love with each other and get secretly married. But when the news leaks out John’s congregation does not think much of that marriage…

Krazy Kat and Ignatz Mouse go to the circus. They meet a starving dog friend of Krazy’s that would gladly eat a mouse. Panic-stricken Ignatz hides. Krazy calls her a chicken. To prove him wrong Ignatz decides to go and scare a woman in the box seats. Krazy tries to do the same to demonstrate that anybody can do this, but of course the woman faced with a cat is not frightened and shooes him.

A circus owner, Pop Blodgett, closely controls Hope's life and presents her as his prima ballerina. Pop has a plan to make Hope more money for him than just dancing.

A circus dancer named Babette is told by her mother and fortune teller Zaidee that her father is Ezra Butterworth, a respected businessman who left them to get married. Following the death of her mother, Babette decides to go and live with her father. Ezra fears for his reputation, he worries about town gossip about his past scum life and asks Babette to keep quiet. But people start to gossip and Ezra tells all to his wife, who pardons him. Sickened Babette goes back to the circus and his beloved Petey.

Joe Debb tells anyone who would listen how much he loves the profession of detective. Deciding to investigate to help his wife, he meets a little dog and ends up on the trail of a circus artist. Dressed as a clown, he gets caught and locked up. As a fire breaks out Deeb is finally saved and catches the murderer, whereas his wife dies in the fire.

The drunk gentleman Mr. Pest goes to the music-hall. He has a hard time trying to find his seat, more than once mussing up already seated members of the audience as well the orchestra musicians. At the same time, M. Rowdy, another spectator who sat in the gallery, sometimes unintendedly disrupts the sequence of numbers performed on scene, among which a snake charmer, an Oriental dancer, a fire breather.

The daring sidesaddle rider Sarah starts going out with Roberto.

Henri de Castelrock, whose father has been forced into exile after having married a circus horserider, comes back to reclaim the family property, in an eerie atmosphere. There he finds a mysterious letter and begins to investigate a story of kidnapping. He meets the family skeleton hidden next to the library, who helps him in his detective work. Some clues lead him towards a circus, where he rescues his cousin before taking off with her.

Wrongly accused of Richard Jenison’s murder, his grandson David takes refuge in a circus pretending to be a clown. He is denounced by humpback Ernie, who resents the affection of the owners, Mrs Braddock and her daughter Christine, for David. Then Ernie’s brother finds out that Richard was killed by his own brother. David proposes to Christine, but he has to wait five years. After lots of setbacks, they will finally be back together.
