Orphan Ted falls in love with a circus and becomes its stowaway. He is discovered the following day, dragged out of his empty wagon… But as he is about to be thrown out, he is rescued by one of the circus artists, whose life he will eventually save. He will also ensure his fortune.

A man and a woman, who first met at a circus years before as kids, meet again as adults. A love story then develops between Lillie and Tom, an abused child who became a lawyer.

A Lord and his wife are visited by their cousin as he is presenting her with the famous Great Ruby of Irskaat, a family heirloom, stirring the cupidity of the new-comer. Later on the Lord receives a call to arms and goes off to war, but not before having buried the gemstone and left his castle and his wife to the care of his trusted servants. The cousin sees his departure as a godsend to get hold of the gemstone, and makes the lady believe that he is there to protect her.

The circus manager takes him under his wing, looks after him like his own son and helps him to become a great artist. When the circus comes into town, the father feels like the proudest man on Earth when he sees the work of his son, who is definitely the best horserider of the circus.

Three loosely connected stories about love set in Europe and told in flashback. « The jealous lover » : Paula is a talented dancer who cannot truly live unless she dances. But she has a heart condition, which means she risks death if she does. « Mademoiselle » : Tommy hates being a child and despises his French tutor. He wants to be an adult so he can do what he wants. He gest his wish for one afternoon: being transformed into a handsome young man for one evening, he learns about being a man and falls for his tutor.

London, summer 1914. Calvero, once a famous London stage clown is now a washed-up drunk. Pluto is infatuated with pretty Dinah the Dachshund, but she sighs for Prince, the circus wonder dog she sees on a poster. Pluto tries to replicate Prince’s numbers but Butch the Bulldog goes after him in an alley.

Sharpshooter Annie Oakley is noticed by Buffalo Bill and joins the Wild West Show, where she is confronted with marksman Franck Butler and soon steals the limelight. In spite of professional rivalry a love story develops between those two exhibition shooters.
